I told you a few posts ago that Sebastian really wants a DS, but that we are not going to spend $130 for yet another electronic device. I told him he was welcome to start saving his money he earns (from earning 5 pennies and trading them in for $1), as well as any gift $ that is given to him.
This morning, on the wii channel, we found a new Pokemon ranch game that allows characters from DS and wii to interact. OH MY GOODNESS! The child is on a new kind of mission to earn and save up enough money to buy himself a DS. He asked me again how much he needed. I told him $130. He did the math in his head (with a little help from me), and realized that it would be at least 3 months before he could earn that kind of money. That seemed a little discouraging to him. So I told him that he could do extra chores around the house to earn pennies more quickly. That was all it took. He AND Isaac went on a rampage. Sebastian cleaned his room, made his bed, and cleaned his sister's room. Isaac made his bed and then started putting all of the toys away in the basement. They're funny!
So we'll see if this enthusiasm for earning money and saving it keeps up. What sounds like a great idea at the start sometimes gets a little hard to stick to as time goes on. But I think this is a good lesson for them both to learn. And who knows, maybe they can pool their money together and get a joint DS. Then maybe they'll only take a month or so. Here's wishing them luck! And hoping for extra help around the house!! :)
